Five years ago, when Mabel was 92 and living independently in her home, she fell and broke her hip. Her children knew it was time for a change. She could no longer live alone.

A friend recommended Assisted Living Connections. After touring several large places with Jan Bearss, the family chose a large Assisted Living Community that provided Mabel with the amenities — and care — she was looking for. Four years later, when she was 96, Mabel’s memory started to decline and she moved into their Memory Care neighborhood.

Unfortunately, Mabel fell again and ended up in the hospital. After a successful recovery from Covid, Mabel was transferred to a rehab center to recover. However, she was not able to feed herself. Her family saw that she was declining and felt the rehab center was not taking the time to attend to her needs.

The family stepped in and fed Mabel every meal, gave her liquid vitamins and advocated for more care. They literally nursed her back to health. Learning Mabel was nearing discharge from the 90 days allocated in rehab, the family didn’t know what to do. They again contacted Jan at Assisted Living Connections.

From the family: “We were panicking, and Jan knew time was of the essence.” Jan toured three homes with them where the caregiver-to-resident ratio was 1:3, far better than at an Assisted Living community. They chose the one that felt right for Mabel.

“Now that Mom is well placed, we are so relieved and happy. I literally cried when I saw her in her new home because she was getting such great care . . .  the care she needed. We just didn’t know how to go about finding a good place for our mom and we are so thankful that Assisted Living Connections was involved, they found the perfect fit.  Honestly, we actually slept that night.”

“Mabel is now 97 years old and yesterday she was sitting at the kitchen table babbling away and we haven’t seen that in a while!”

Above is a photo of Mabel at Christmas a couple weeks ago, back to her vibrant self.
